Long delicious rice noodles, flavorful broth and vibrant greens; a warm bowl of pho is one of our go-to’s whenever we’re craving something warm and comforting. From the hip, eclectic spin on pho at Khe-Yo to a more traditional rendition at Sao Mai, here are ten awesome bowls of pho you need to try.
Madame Vo
PC: Alexa MatthewsEast Village favorite Madame Vo is known for their modern, innovative take on Vietnamese cuisine. The Madame Pho, aka the classic pho, is a beef broth with rice noodles, cilantro, and a long simmered broth with an optional choice of short rib – which we would definitely recommend. They also cook up a mushroom based pho and a lemongrass pho which we love.
BoCaphe

They offer a few versions of pho, all served with cilantro, rice noodles, red onion, scallions and their homemade chili sauce. With options including the house special pho with classic beef made with filet mignon and brisket, a chicken pho with pulled chicken and ginger broth, vegetable pho with tofu and mushrooms and the hanoi style beef broth pho, we promise your meal here will leave you obsessed with Vietnamese cuisine.
Pho Bang
PC: @thrillistPho Bang in Chinatown is known for serving some of the best Pho in New York and we could not agree more. It’s ideal for larger party sizes with tables that can fit about eight and has solid prices to match. The pho with flank steak is our go-to, and we recommend throwing in some basil, the side spicy sauce and extra lime as well for the perfect spoonful.
Lucy’s Vietnamese Kitchen
PC: @pho_showLucy’s Vietnamese Kitchen is a Williamsburg eatery serving flavor packed pho with various side dishes, staying true to chef Phuoc “Johnny” Huynh’s Vietnamese roots. The smoked brisket pho is classic but modern, and the vegan ginger pho is surprisingly meaty, with shiitake mushrooms, scallions, and a deeply flavored ginger broth.
Sao Mai
PC: @foodmentoSao Mai is our spot for a no frills, pho-filled experience. Their pho is the crowd pleaser of the menu, with flavorful broths, the right amount of spice and tender meats. We really love their chicken pho, made with shredded chicken and filled with fresh vegetables.
Saigon Shack

All served with a side of cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapenos, basil, and lime, the Saigon Shack pho, brisket pho, vegetarian pho, and grilled chicken lemongrass pho are all crowd favorites. Make sure not to miss out on the fried pork and shrimp dumplings, pulled pork banh mi and the fried crab cakes.
Khe-Yo
PC: @khe-yoKhe-Yo, brought to us by Marc Forgione and chef Soulayphet Schwader, serves up eclectic plates that pack a punch, specifically the nong-khai style pho. This pho is made with brisket, oxtail, herbs, lettuces, and perfectly tender rice noodles, all in a seasoned, flavorful broth. Other must orders here include the fresh papaya salad, berkshire pork ribs, sesame beef jerky, and sticky rice with spicy bang bang sauce.
Bunker
