French toast is an American breakfast classic that we can all get behind. From Sadelle’s super fluffy brioche french toast with jam and syrup, to a crazy unique twist like the Shopsin’s mac n cheese french toast, we can’t get enough of them and we know you’ll feel the same way. Here are ten awesome french toasts to check off your “to eat” list if you haven’t already!
Shuka
PC: @shukanycWe love Shuka for their kabob skewers, shawarma, and super innovative Middle Eastern style dips. BUT, chef Ayesha Nurdaja also happens to make a killer chocolate babka french toast for brunch. Here, it’s topped with milk chocolate streusel, whipped cream and pomegranate seeds for just the perfect amount of tart with each sweet bite.
Thai Diner
PC: @uli_eatsWe’ve been anticipating the opening of Thai Diner for what seems like forever and we have to admit that it’s everything we hoped it would be and more. Quite possibly the most inventive French Toast we’ve ever tried is this Thai tea babka french toast with condensed milk butter. Yup, you read that right.
Sadelle’s
PC: @rickyjaarKnown for their decadent smoked fish towers and beautifully chopped salads, Sadelle’s is one of our all time favorite brunch spots. Best part? Under their breakfast specialities, you’ll find the french toast, made of two, thick cut pieces of brioche that are perfectly crisp on the outside and insanely fluffy on the inside. Our go-to move is ordering one for the table – it’s the perfect sweet finish to your bagel feast.
Maison Pickle
PC: @food24sevenEverything at Maison Pickle is a bit over the top –in a good way–, so it comes as no surprise that their whopping five options of challah french toast are on this list. For a sweet choice, order the nutella and banana french toast french topped with fresh whipped cream. If you’re in the mood for something more savory, go for the fried chicken and hot honey chicken french toast or the bacon and maple syrup for a little bit of both!
Noods N’ Chill
PC: @timeoutnewyorkNoods n’ Chill is a new, tiny Thai eatery in Greenpoint offering authentic thai favorites from Pad See Ew to Khao Soy. On the weekends, they serve a brioche toast with jam, dried pork floss and sweet chili. The fluffy brioche, sweet and spicy jam mixture and savory pork is an incredibly flavorful combination that works together perfectly.
Shopsin’s
PC: ThrillistThe iconic Shopsin’s is a quirky diner located in the newly reopened Essex Street Market. The eclectic and insanely extensive menu includes decadent french toast combinations with highlights including oreo, lemon poppy, butterscotch chip and mac n cheese. Whether you want classic, super sweet, savory with a twist, or something completely out of the ordinary, Shopsin’s has got it all.
Buttermilk Channel
PC: @buttermilkbklynButtermilk Channel is an American comfort food eatery in Brooklyn. Their brunch, served on Saturday and Sunday, has a large menu including egg scrambles with hashbrowns, toast, and salad, a short rib hash, and fried pork and cheddar waffles. But, we really love coming here for their pecan pie french toast that’s topped with bourbon and molasses sauce with toasted pecans.
Kopitiam
PC: @kopitiamnycLES hotspot Kopitiam is a small counter spot dishing out authentic Malaysian fare. Their Malaysian Style “Milo” french toast is served with malt powder and condensed milk; we promise you’ll be blown away by this American-Malaysian fusion of one of our favorite breakfast dishes!
Loring Place
PC: @loringplacenycDan Kluger’s Greenwich Village restaurant, Loring Place, offers an extensive brunch with a great selection of American classics focused on fresh, local ingredients; one of the many reasons we love it here. We also really love their cinnamon-chocolate marble french toast topped with homemade “coffee-cake” crumbs.
Russ and Daughters Cafe
PC: trip advisorNew York establishment Russ and Daughters Cafe offers endless appetizing favorites with a modern take, one of our favorites being the french toast. Of course, this isn’t your average French toast; it’s chocolate and cinnamon babka French toast served with sour cream and fruit, and apple compote, candied nuts, and creme fraiche for the later.
