Every now and then we crave an egg dish that’s a little more sophisticated than your average scrambled eggs. We’re talking sunny side up eggs, served over corn tortillas with salsa and if we’re lucky, a generous portion of guacamole. If you’re looking for an egg dish that is a little more adventurous than normal, try one of these spots for a tasty rendition of Huevos Rancheros.
Clinton Street Baking Company
PC: @esprvssoThis LES American restaurant features some of the best and most indulgent pancakes in the city. They also happen to do a great job at making just about everything, Huevos Rancheros included. Chef Neil Kleinberg and Dede Lahman’s rendition is made with sunny side up eggs, red beans, guac, jalapeno sour cream, salsa picante, and pepper jack cheese all served on a homemade corn tortilla.
Bubby’s
PC: @brooklkynismyboyfriendBubby’s began in 1990 when owner Ron Silver used to bake and sell pies. Now with two locations in Tribeca and by the High Line in Chelsea, this spot serves all kinds of traditional American fare. We love their Huevos Rancheros here complete with eggs, tortilla, avocado, black beans, green rice and queso.
Atla
PC: @twohungryspoonsEnrique Olvera came on to the NYC food scene with Cosme in 2014 and then Atla several years later. Located in Noho, this contemporary Mexican cafe is an all-day dining destination. Their Huevos Rancheros are a must-try here any day of the week.
Oxomoco
PC: @_oxomoco_Oxomoco in Greenpoint serves modern Mexican cuisine in a stunning back patio, perfect for the warm weather. Here, Speedy Romeo Chef Justin Bazdarich and restaurateur Chris Walton serve up one of our all time favorite renditions of Huevos Rancheros, served on a tostada with black beans, salsa veracruz, salsa cruda and queso.
Cookshop
PC: @theeatingtwoLocated next to the High Line, Cookshop is brought to us by Chef Marc Meyer and owners Vicki Freeman and Chris Paraskevaides. Their Huevos Rancheros made of baked eggs, black beans, ranchero sauce, creme fraiche, fried tortilla, monterey jack cheese, pickled jalapeno and red onions has been a favorite of ours for years!
Cafe Habana
PC: @beccablu_New Orleans native Sean Meenan is behind Cafe Habana’s famous grilled corn and delicious tacos. He also initiated a non-profit called Habana Works to foster community which is just another reason why we love this spot so much. Their authentic take on the Huevos Rancheros comes with two eggs sunny side up served over corn tortillas and topped with salsa ranchera and served with black beans and home fries.
La Contenta
PC: @bloggerhusbandLa Contenta is a Mexican eatery with two locations in Greenwich and the LES. Chef Luis Arce Mota showcases his Mexican background as well as French culinary training here with dishes like their tacos and absolutely perfect Huevos Rancheros.
Casa Enrique
PC: @casaenriqueLocated in Long Island City, Casa Enrique is the first ever Mexican restaurant in NYC to receive a Michelin star. The menu is straightforward here and their Huevos Rancheros are classic, yet exquisite: two eggs over corn tortillas, refried beans, salsa ranchera, avocado and queso.
