One of our most asked questions is, “where can I celebrate a birthday in NYC.” And while there are tons of amazing restaurants with great vibes, up until recently, our list of “party restaurants” has been a pretty short list. I guess we have the pandemic to thank for the uptake in restaurants that somewhat secretly transform into a bar/club. Keep reading for our top picks of party restaurants in NYC and let us know if there are any spots we should add!
Puglia
PC: YoutubePuglia in Little Italy is the perfect spot for a big birthday dinner that won’t break the bank. We recommend doing the prix-fixe; for only $49.95, you get an Italian family-style feast including garlic bread, caesar salad, stuffed eggplant and cheesecake. But we’d be lying if we told you to come for the food – you’re coming for the included unlimited beer and wine and the extremely rowdy crowd that may or may not accidently get some red sauce on your blouse. Dress accordingly!
Kyma
PC: FacebookKyma does two things right: serve incredible Greek food and throw a crazy dance party. The menu is seafood heavy, so definitely order the whole roasted fish. The vibes here are upscale, sceney and just the perfect amount of dance party. On Friday and Saturday nights, and even sometimes for brunch, the restaurant somehow is able to mimic the vibe of a downtown club. There are always an abundance of sparklers and shots circulating the restaurant for the many birthdays being celebrated.
Sushi On Me
PC: Eater NYCIt seems almost impossible that an omakase restaurant would make a list of party restaurants. But, Sushi on Me is far from your ordinary sushi experience. For $89, you’re not only getting a decadent meal filled with uni, oysters, and toro, but you’re also getting sparklers, smoke machines, 2000’s pop music, and unlimited sake. Rest assured, the chefs will make sure your sake cup is always full. Even though the seating is only an hour and there are only twelve people per seating, there is nowhere else in New York with this level of sushi and fun combined. Trust us when we say there is nothing like it!
Little Prince
PC: Instagram: Little PrinceMake your weekend reservation here no earlier than 9PM if you came to party. Start with the Rue Paul cocktail and the Annabel salad and try the Steak Monte Carlo with bone marrow butter if you’re feeling boujee like all the other tables around you. At around 11PM, waiters start handing out astronaut helmets, maracas, and wigs. The music gets louder, and you’ll see the owner’s table in the corner all stand on their chairs and start the party. Drinks switch to being served in plastic cups, and it becomes an exclusive club. You can also expect celebrity sightings, spending a bit more than you want to, and singing early 2000’s hits until you lose your voice.
Maison Close
PC: Instagram: jenniferfisherkitchenMaison Close is NYC’s newest hotspot for an extravagant party brunch. Weeknights are fun here too, but this is definitely where you want to be at 2PM on a Saturday or Sunday. Expect champagne towers, dancers, sparklers and waiters dressed up in absurd costumes. Honestly, the people watching here alone makes it a great time. The food here is solid, but the fun vibe makes the experience a 10/10.
Le Bibloquet
PC: Guest of a GuestThere’s no doubt that Le Bilboquet is the hottest brunch spot on the Upper East Side. Their Saturday brunch here is an epic dance party with free flowing rose, sparklers and a crowd you’d be shocked to see ripping shots at 1PM. You’ll also definitely see someone famous eating their signature cajun chicken. Bring a big group of friends and expect to stay dancing for several hours, until it’s suddenly dark outside and they start preparing for dinner service.
Le Baratin
PC: Instagram: Le BaratinLe Baratin’s night starts out low key. You’ll be eating French dishes like steak frites and chicken cordon bleu, while sipping on espresso martinis and taking in the great people watching. The staff moves the tables later in the night, draws the curtains, turns up the music, and the restaurant transforms into an epic bar. Having a reservation for dinner gives you automatic entry to stay for the night, dancing and singing, while a queue forms around the block waiting to get in.
Ribalta
PC: New York MagazineRibalta has not only brought the delicious Naples pizza to New York, but they also have a gluten free version that is just as good as the gluten-filled one. There’s no pre-fixe or bottomless option, and there’s no minimum spend, just order as you please off the menu. Our personal favorite is the Zucchine pie, a white pie with zucchini puree, burrata and speck. This spot is perfect for a group with dietary restrictions, is relatively inexpensive, and is a fun spot that gets lively on Friday and Saturday nights.
HaSalon
PC: The New YorkerThis Israeli restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen has 2 seatings each night, and if you’re in it for the party, you should only make a reservation for the second seating which starts at 8PM. By around 10:30PM, the lights dim and a DJ starts blasting pop music and within the blink of an eye, everyone at the restaurant is dancing on tables and waving their napkins in the air. The food here is brought to us by Eyal Shayani, so you can expect a great meal, but know that it’s a bit pricey. Although the menu here changes frequently, your meal here will start with the house focaccia served with roasted tomatoes and a creme fraiche dip, which is incredible, and we also love to order the the 7 -yes, specifically 7- ricotta clouds served with a decadent brown butter sauce and the roast beef carpaccio.
12 Chairs Soho
PC: ResyIt just so happens that one of our all time Israeli favorite restaurants brings the party vibe of Tel Aviv to Soho. It’s always crowded and fully booked, with big tables all drinking tons of wine and maybe even more hummus. The food is simply put, excellent – your meal would be incomplete without the shipudim, which are chicken skewers served with a delicious tomato salad and tahini. And don’t be surprised if a tambourine makes its way to your table if you’re there late enough.
Little Ways
PC: Guest of a GuestThis two-floor restaurant on the LES is the perfect place for dinner and drinks. Start on the first floor around 8 PM for a delicious dinner – don’t skip the crab linguine. Afterwards, your server will let you know that you can head upstairs to the lounge…but this is no ordinary lounge. It’s an upscale, sexy bar with a disco ball, fun music, and people lined up outside just to get in. The cocktails are fabulous, especially the Alfonso with tequila, apricot, and ginger and it’s served with one of those dried apricot candies everyone hates to love.
