From Taim’s Cauliflower Shawarma Pita to Junzi’s incredible tofu and long bean bings, we’ve got a pretty good selection of vegetarian friendly spots around NYC. Next time you’re looking for a quick veggie fix, look no further than these awesome quick-casual spots.
Superiority Burger
PC: @eater_nySuperiority Burger is a fast-casual vegetarian concept that attracts the veggie lover and the carnivore alike. Chef and owner Brooks Headley, former pastry chef at Del Posto, has revolutionized how we see our veggies with this insanely good veggie burger and a faux sloppy joe sandwich complete with crispy onions.
Taim
Brought to us by Israeli chef Chef Einat Admony of Balaboosta and Kish Kash, you can expect recipes straight from Tel Aviv at Taim. Most recently, they launched their Cauliflower Shawarma Pita complete with hummus, pickled onion, pickled cabbage, tahini and amba. The Tabouli and Marinated Beets are also must-trys!
Village Den
Chef Antoni Porowski of the famed Netflix series “Queer Eye” opened Village Den in the West Village last summer and it’s a great option for a healthy bite at any time of the day. Find classics here like avocado toast or the almond cesar salad and go for their vegan crunchy and creamy bowl or one of their nostalgic TV dinners at night.
Beyond Sushi
PC: @beyondsushinycThis first ever vegan sushi concept debuted in July of 2012 and now has six locations throughout manhattan. Get your veggie fix here with savory sushi, dumplings, rice paper wraps, salads and noodle soups, all of which are meat and seafood free.
Dez
Dez is a contemporary Middle Eastern quick-casual spot in Nolita brought to us by Eden Grinshpan of top chef Canada and Samantha Wasser of by Chloe. We seriously love this spot anytime of the day for the beet hummus, honey roasted carrot mezze, fire roasted cauliflower and the avocado pita.
Made Nice
PC: @made_niceMade Nice serves up seasonal salads, sandwiches, and plates from the Eleven Madison Park Team. Favorites here include the Pomegranate Tabbouleh salad with quinoa, cucumber, radish, pumpkin seeds and feta and the Curry Cauliflower with tofu. Make sure to save room for dessert and get yourself an order of their chocolate caramel soft serve.
Frankie Goes to Bollywood
Frankie Goes to Bollywood is a lively Indian spot in Soho that specializes in modern and approachable Indian cuisine. For your veggie fix, we recommend going for the pan-fried okra prepared with dried apricots and kale or the Slammin’ Sag. We’re also obsessed with their chickpea fritters that come with different dipping sauces.
Junzi Kitchen
PC: @junzikitchenFounded in 2015 by Chef Lucas Sin, Junzi offers a healthy-ish take on northern chinese food with customizable bings and bowls. For bings, we love the tofu and long beans with garlic chili sauce and grilled tofu. If you’re looking for something a bit more hearty, order the furu tofu or the jaja mushroom in your noodle bowls.
Samesa
Samesa pays homage to the Mediterranean street food of Detroit and is definitely one of our favorite quick casual spots in New York. They offer a fresh take on veggie mezze with options like avocado hummus, lentil pistachio, perfectly seasoned zucchini fritter and more. If only they could deliver in NYC!
