Finding the perfect bar for catching up with a friend or a casual date can be tough. Finding a bar with a great atmosphere and great food is even harder. Because we understand that greasy nachos and soggy fries are not always an ideal weeknight/weekend meal, we’ve rounded up a list of some of our favorite bars that also happen to serve great food.
The Penrose
PC: @penrosebarHead to The Penrose on the Upper East Side for old-fashioned cocktails and a long list of beer and whiskey. This vintage bar not only offers an expansive spirits menu, but they also serve things like a Murray’s Cheese Board at 1AM. If you get off work early, enjoy their happy hour specials from 3-7PM on weeknights.
Bar Sardine
Bar Sardine is an intimate bar in the West Village; it’s the type of place that you can sit at for hours and never want to leave. Even better, they serve one of our favorite burgers in the city topped with with smoked cheddar, crispy potatoes, cucumber and BBQ Mayo.
Royale
PC: @nycmunchkinClassic burgers and year round patio seating are some of the main attractions at Royale in the East Village. Here, guests can enjoy a big sporting event on their 55” flat screen and chow down on the Glorious Grilled 4-Cheese and Tomato sandwich amongst other favorites.
The Commodore
Photo: Serious EatsGet your fried chicken fix and other southern comfort bites at The Commodore. This saloon has amazing Fried Chicken Biscuits, Mac & Cheese and craft cocktails. Oh, and they also make insanely good loaded nachos.
The Happiest Hour
Photo: EaterHave the happiest of hours at The Happiest Hour with a cocktail lounge and horseshoe bar. This tiki inspired spot boasts an award winning burger, sandwiches and even chopped salads. We also love their Smoked Fish Dip and the Bonsai Chicken bites.
Bar Goto
PC: @bargoto_nycFor a contemporary bar with a Japanese spin, come to Bar Goto. Here, they serve innovative small plates like Goto Pickles, Miso Wings and Cauliflower Tots. Or, try pairing their life-changing Okonomi-yaki which your choice of sake.
Eli’s Night Shift
Photo: Time OutEli’s Night Shift on the UES is one of Eli Zabar’s newest eateries that turns into a trendy bar at night. We’re talking Pigs in a Blanket, Blistered Shishito Peppers, and Prosciutto and Arugula Flatbread. We also recommend the Hot Pastrami on Rye and the Brioche Burger. Basically, everything here is great and we promise you’ll leave happy and full.
The Jeffrey
PC: @infatuationDuring the day The Jeffrey serves hot espresso and coffee, but at night it turns into a rustic bar serving awesome speciality cocktails. Snack on their popcorn tossed in truffle oil or their house made potato chips and then go big with the Jeffrey Reubenstein Sandwich.
