We get it, a salad is probably not what gets you excited about eating out in NYC. But, after trying some of these super fresh, satisfying salads, we are convinced you may just change your mind. From the classic Chopped Green Salad at Spring Street Natural, to the French-inspired Nicoise salad at Balthazar, here are some very excellent entree salads that you can enjoy and feel good about eating.
Loring Place
PC: loringplacenycThanks to chef Kluger’s connections with farmers at the Union Square Market, it’s safe to say that your meal at Loring Place will be prepared with only the freshest produce. This veggie-focused restaurant offers amazing plates like the Grilled Strawberry Salad and Roasted Beets. We also love the Poached Egg Salad for lunch made with wilted spinach, market greens and a sesame-citrus vinaigrette.
Spring Street Natural
PC: @spring_natural_restaurantThis organic-only eatery was ahead of it’s time since opening in Soho back in 1973. We love Spring Natural for lunch or dinner and especially love their salad offerings. Our favorite is the Chopped Green Salad complete with romaine, baby spinach, mesclun, radicchio, roasted corn, butternut squash, feta, red peppers, chopped tomatoes, herbed croutons and herb balsamic vinaigrette. What more could you ask for in a salad?
El Rey
PC: @elreynycLocated on the LES, this coffee shop and luncheonette is run by Marlow & Daughters alum Chef Mason Lindahl. The menu at El Rey includes favorites like the housemade granola with pepitas and banana and the Diablo Chicken Bowl. As for salads, our go-to is the Farro Salad with sheep’s milk cheese, mint, hazelnuts and an avocado add on.
Seamore’s
PC: @seamoresSeamore’s is a reliable spot for a healthy-ish, reasonably priced spot for lunch or dinner. We find ourselves always coming back for Chris Cryer’s Kale and Avocado salad complete with walnuts, sweet potato, quinoa, and honey-apple vinaigrette – yum! Other favorites here include the fish tacos, the poke and the “Reel Deel” with the fresh catch of the day.
Serafina
PC: @unbuttongingpantsWe have Co-founder Fabio Granato to thank for the revolutionary pizza oven and for bringing authentic Italian cuisine to NYC in 1995 – salads included! We love Serafina’s Chicken Salad packed with grilled organic chicken paillard (seriously we can never finish all the chicken), romaine and mesclun, sun dried tomatoes, raisin pine nuts and pesto dressing.
Sadelle’s
PC: kaitauroraLike most New Yorker’s, we love going to Sadelle’s for fresh, hot bagels made right before your eyes, lox salad and of course the french toast, but we also love Sadelle’s for their decadent and colorful salads. Their rendition of the Cobb Salad might be our favorite in NYC – each ingredient is prepared to perfection and we get excited every time we see this colorful bowl arrive at our table.
ABC Kitchen
PC: @abckitchenAt Jean Georges’ ABC Kitchen, most of the produce is sourced locally from their rooftop garden. As you might imagine, the menu here is seasonal and changes often, which is part of the reason why we love it so much. Our current go-to is the kale salad simply prepared with lemon, serrano chilies and mint.
Balthazar
PC: Kristen HuntIconic Soho bistro Balthazar has been a favorite since opening back in 1997. Keith McNally knows a thing or two about authentic French fare, so it comes as no surprise that everything here from the french onion soup, to the pastries and salads are done to perfection. If you’re dining here for lunch, the Nicoise salad with fresh seared tuna and marinated tomatoes is the move.
The Smith
PC: the smith restaurantThis American-bistro turned New York chain offers a little something for everyone, even when it comes to entree salads. The Lobster salad here is a must-order, featuring whole Maine lobster, baby lettuce, charred corn, tomato, zucchini and radish, all topped with a buttermilk vinaigrette. We couldn’t dream up a more satisfying green lunch if we tried!
