Winter is in full swing which means we are officially indulging in warm, chocolatey goodness at every chance we get. To make your NYC winter experience just a little more bearable, keep reading for some of our favorite cups of hot chocolate.
City Bakery
Located in the Flatiron District, City Bakery is known for their speciality hot chocolates and fresh baked pastries. Here, the drink is essentially pure dark chocolate in liquid form. Be sure to complete your own with one of their massive marshmallows. If you’re a serious hot chocolate lover, check out the City Bakery Annual Hot Chocolate Festival that hosts more than 50,000 hot chocolate lovers every February.
Laduree
We’ve been obsessed with Laduree ever since they opened their first NYC location back in 2011. Their passionfruit and coconut hot chocolate is second to none and pairs perfectly well with their homemade vanilla bean marshmallows and classic macarons.
Maman
Maman is a cafe, bakery and event space that first opened in Soho in 2014. Their chocolate chip cookie is one of our favorites of all time so be sure to order one with a cup of their classic or nutty chocolate chip flavored hot chocolate.
Mariebelle
PC: @mariebelleofficialAt Maribelle Soho you can choose from over fifteen varieties of hot chocolate including milk, dark and white chocolate options all made with different kinds of Valrhona chocolates. Our personal favorite here is the Matcha hot chocolate – we haven’t tried anything quite like it!
Jacques Torres
PC: guestofaguestSince opening his American chocolate shop in 2000, Chef Jacques Torres has been providing craft chocolate products to New Yorkers and beyond. Torres was the first artisan chocolatier in NYC to start from cocoa beans to make his own chocolate so it comes as no surprise that the hot chocolate here is super rich, creamy and one of the best cups in the city.
Martha’s Country Bakery
All of the baked goods at Martha’s Country Bakery are baked from scratch every day on site at their Astoria, Forest Hills and Bayside locations. You really can’t go wrong here, especially when it comes to the hot chocolate, which is available in fun flavors like red velvet.
Nutella Cafe
If you are a nutella-lover, then you need to get yourself to the Nutella Cafe if you haven’t already. Here, you’ll find all things nutella like waffles, crepes, ice cream, drinks and more. Grab a piping cup of hot chocolate with nutella whipped cream which is so good that it’s probably worth the visit in itself.
Van Leeuwen
Van Leeuwen has become known as one of the top ice cream spots in NYC with one of the largest (and best) vegan ice cream selections. But, little known to many, their vegan hot chocolate made with with coconut whipped cream is pretty epic, too.
Olmsted
PC: purewowGreg Baxtrom is the chef and owner at this American neighborhood restaurant in Prospect Heights, complete with outdoor garden in the back where the restaurant sources many of its ingredients. Our favorite part of each visit here is ending the meal in the back garden with a cup of their homemade hot chocolate.
Dominique Ansel
PC: @dominiqueanselFamed for the beloved cronut and cookie shot, it’s no surprise that Dominique Ansel’s hot chocolate is one of the best we’ve ever had. The Blossoming Hot Chocolate began in Tokyo and instantly went viral. This special beverage includes a flower marshmallow that blossoms when placed in the hot chocolate to reveal a sweet bon bon surprise.
