We are serious about our steak here at EatingNYC, and we won’t settle for a basic filet mignon or sub-par creamed spinach. If you’re anything like us, we’re sure you’ll appreciate this round up of some of our favorite steakhouses in the NYC area.
Peter Luger Steakhouse
Since 1887, Peter Luger has been rated one of the top steakhouses in NY, and for good reason. This iconic, cash-only restaurant serves some seriously good aged beef (dry aged on-site) in a German Beer Hall setting. The Porterhouse for two is the winner here and their burger –though available for lunch only– is worth the trip and advanced reservation in itself. This classic NY experience can’t be complete without their sizzling extra thick cut bacon and “holy cow” ice cream sundae, shclag included.
Bowery Meat Company
Bowery Meat Company is a contemporary, trendy steakhouse by chef Capon offering both traditional steakhouse favorites and innovative dishes like duck lasagne for two. This meat-lovers haven offers locally and domestically sourced meats including beef from Diamond Creek Ranch and Colorado lamb, veal and pork.
Porter House Bar & Grill
Pair your steak at Porter House Bar & Grill with stunning views of Central Park. This upscale and traditional steakhouse by native New Yorker Chef Michael Lomonaco is also known for their bone marrow and creamed spinach made with bacon. We also can’t get enough of their double-stacked cheeseburger served at the bar.
St. Anselm
A true Williamsburg restaurant, you can pair your steaks at St. Anselm with rock music and a modern, brick-walled interior complete with an open kitchen – perfect for watching all the magic happen.Whatever you go with, make sure you end your meal at St. Anselm with the rum sticky toffee cake, a personal favorite. Pro Tip: Make your reservation to this trendy steakhouse in advance as the wait can be quite long.
Keen’s Steakhouse
PC: @_toboSince 1885, Keen’s has been known for serving some of the most amazing steaks and best buttery mashed potatoes we’ve ever tasted, though they’re most famous for their insanely large and juicy Mutton Chops. Fun Fact: The steakhouse is also home to one of the largest collections of smoking pipes in the world.
Strip House
PC: @mattbruckThis wildly popular steakhouse has been praised several times by the NY Times and is the perfect spot for anything from a romantic date night or a serious power meal.We typically opt for the bone-in-ribeye when dining here and we love that all of their steaks are served with a head of incredibly delicious roasted garlic Save room for dessert too – their 25-layer chocolate cake is to-die-for!
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse
PC: wolfgangssteakhouseWolfgang Zwiener started as head waiter at Peter Luger Steakhouse and now owns Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, a world-renowned steakhouse chain with several locations across the US and in Asia. Start your meal here with their chopped salad and go for their aged-in-house porterhouse served for two or more.
American Cut Steakhouse
PC: @apaganuzziIf bread is a good indicator of what the rest of your meal will be like, then American Cut Steakhouse wins. Their buttery biscuits are flaky and served with a veggie spread that melts into the warmed bread. Chef and owner Marc Forgione is a season 3 winner of Food Network’s “The Next Iron Chef” and serves some of the most tender steaks we’ve ever tried. The 30 day dry aged bone-in ribeye is juicy and charred to perfection and served with bone marrow butter.
