Let’s get real – top quality sushi at an affordable price is hard to come by in this city. As serious sushi aficionados, we’ve tried far more Japanese sopots than you could ever imagine. From here, we’ve rounded up a list of our favorite sushi spots that don’t break the bank. Keep reading to learn more about these spots; your stomach and wallet will thank you later!
Domodomo
Domosake PC: DomodomoDomodomo is one of NY’s first hand roll bars with a must-try original Domokase. Like Omakase, the Domokase is a colorful, signature course meal with a variety of sushi, hand rolls and other modern Japanese dishes. With an artfully designed interior and graduate chef Brian Kim of Culinary Institute of America, let this West Village spot demonstrate the creative variations of Japanese cuisine.
Tomoe Sushi
PC: @idream0fsushiTomoe Sushi is a neighborhood, family-run sushi spot known for their great quality fish with great prices to match. Their sushi/sashimi special comes with ten pieces of sashimi, five pieces of nigiri, half a sushi roll and a soup or salad for just $35.
Katsuei
PC: @andysrichardsKatsuei entertains a “sushi for everyone” philosophy with all kinds of sushi rolls, and then some. We were so happy when Katsuei expanded and opened a second West Village location last year. Whatever you go with, make sure get an order of their fall all-off-the-bone miso cod and raw oysters in ponzu sauce.
Kanoyama
PC: @the_sushi_snobDaily specials and menu changes at Kanoyama allow the restaurant to serve some of the freshest sushi and sashimi in NYC. In addition for their $42 omakase, they’re also known for offering bluefin tuna rib – if you’re into that sort of thing.
Hasaki
PC: @peter_somervilleEast Village favorite, Hasaki, has consistently served great sushi and sashimi since 1984. We always love trying out their fresh daily fish of the day and always enjoy classics including the negi-toro plate, age tofu and their sushi platters, all at around $30.
Kotobuki
PC: @dinekotobukiCome to Kotobuki for a sushi and sashimi dinner for two that will leave you feeling extra satisfied.. The Sashimi Special comes with 12 pieces of sashimi, salmon Carpaccio, pieces of UFO roll, salad and a bowl of miso soup for only $24!
The Loop
PC: @illest_eatsStay in the loop with this neighborhood Japanese eatery serving up the usual rolls, tempura and one of our favorites: bento boxes. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Big Mac roll or healthfully indulge in the Shrimp Mango Avocado roll. They even have a Chicken Teriyaki lunch box with chicken, rice, 6 pieces of sushi, miso soup, salad and two orange slices for on the go.
Kazunori
PC: @kazunorisushiFor sushi affectionados on a budget, come to the “Original Hand Roll Bar” for tender fish, specially harvested seaweed, homemade sauces and signature warm rice from the team behind Sugarfish. The spicy scallop and blue crab rolls here are our favorites.
