In a city with endless options for burgers, pizza and pasta, we always find it surprising when we’re craving a great salad and need to take a beat to find one. Yes, there are plenty of great salads in this city, but dining out and enjoying a hearty entree salad is not as easy to come by. That’s where we come in. Keep reading for ten filling and actually delicious entree salads we love in NYC.
American Bar’s Chopped Salad
PC: Facebook – American BarLet’s be real, the only reason we really like going to American Bar is for the scene and, of course, the chopped salad, which is probably our favorite thing on the menu. This hearty salad is made with soppressata, sun dried tomatoes, red onion, chickpeas, cucumbers, queso fresco, and a housemade vinaigrette. Pair yours with a martini and a side of fries for the full AB experience.
Westville’s Kale Salad
PC: Instagram – WestvilleThe Kale Salad at Westville is a long time favorite – there’s something about the combination of the acidic pickled red onions, the blue cheese, sweet cranberries and nuts that make it just perfect. Honestly, we’ve never met a kale salad we like more. Pro tip: this salad holds up well full dressed and is a great option for delivery.
Sadelle’s Cobb
PC: EatingNYCAll of the salad options at Sadelles are truly epic. Think: the best country club salad you’ve ever had but bigger, better and more beautiful. The Cobb in particular is the very best rendition of this classic favorite; it’s prepared with the classic combo of chicken, bacon, egg, avocado, and tomato but all of the ingredients are so incredibly fresh. Plus, the beautiful presentation is, quite literally, the rainbow icing on the cake.
Mezzaluna’s Pollanca Salad
PC: EatingNYCMezzaluna is an iconic UES establishment that’s been around since 1984 and still serves the same great quality food, with the Pollanca salad holding strong as one of the best large salads we’ve ever tried. It’s made with chopped grilled organic chicken, fennel, apple, avocado, celery, tomatoes and corn, all topped with a zesty lemon dressing we can’t get enough of!
Ruby’s Shrimp Avocado Salad
PC: Eater LARuby’s Shrimp Avocado Salad is one we think about often. Made with cherry tomatoes, watermelon radish, snow peas, and topped with a mustard cider vinaigrette. It’s satisfying, healthy and just really delicious.
12 Chairs Shouk Salad
PC: SeamlessAt any Israeli restaurant, a salad is a staple order. But that’s especially the case at 12 chairs. The Shouk salad is incredible – cubes of cucumber, tomato, peppers, red onion, and topped with a huge block of fresh feta cheese. There’s no lettuce, which is honestly how we prefer salad anyway.
Hillstone’s Yellowtail Sashimi Salad
PC: Instagram – @bigredbitesTo settle this debate, the Yellowtail Sashimi Salad is the best salad on the menu at Hillstone. We’ll admit they’re all really good, but this one stands out to us time and time again. It’s made with fresh yellowtail sashimi in ponzu sauce and paired with a kale salad that is dressed with cashew and a sesame miso vinaigrette we just can’t get enough of.
Isle Of Us Caesar Salad
PC: EatingnycIsle of Us is, simply put, the best thing to happen to the UES in a long time. We truly love everything here, from their homemade granola to their matcha mochi cake, but their Kale & Brussels salad is what initially stole our heart. Made with little gem lettuce, marinated chickpeas, radishes, basil, croutons, caesar dressing, vegan “parmesan” cheese, trust us when we say it tastes even better than it sounds. Add a protein for the full experience – we love their rotisserie chicken.
Daily Provisions Kale Salad (Add Chicken)
PC: Instagram – Daily ProvisionsDaily Provisions does a lot of things right, but we’re here to talk about their Kale Caesar which may fall slightly under the radar considering how good everything else here is: crullers, breakfast sandwiches etc. We always opt to add their fresh rotisserie chicken and avocado for a fulfilling lunch or dinner. The combination paired with crispy chicken, egg, and celery is just magical.
Mark’s Off Madison’s Chopped Chicken Salad
PC: Facebook – Mark’s Off MadisonOne of our favorite things about going to Barney’s was stopping for lunch and getting the classic chopped chicken salad, so we were so happy we didn’t have to say bye to this gem forever with the opening of Mark’s Off Madison. The salad is made with bibb lettuce, avocado, onion, tomato string bean, pears, freshly roasted chicken and topped with a dijon mustard balsamic dressing.
