NYC has no shortage of extravagant, over-priced, custom cakes, but when you’re looking for a delicious birthday cake that you can get with less than 24 hours notice, the options suddenly get much slimmer. Trust us when we say we’ve been there many, many times – enough to know a thing or two about pulling off the perfect birthday celebration for your friends or family. Keep reading for the best birthday cakes in NYC, from your classic confetti to ice cream and everything in between!

Brooklyn Social

First they gave us Ample Hills, and now they’re giving us something even better: Brooklyn Social. Duo Brian and Jackie Cuscana have an insane ice cream cake line up with the SS Whitman taking the cake – pun intended. The cake is a delicious combination of “Oh Captain! My Captain ice cream” – cap’n crunch infused with clusters of white chocolate tossed Fruity Pebbles and vanilla sponge cake, caramel, cone crunches, whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles.

Billy’s Bakery

Cofounders Marc and Wayne started Billy’s Bakery to provide delicious treats to their local neighborhood in Chelsea, and they’ve done just that. All of their cakes are great, but our go-to is always the classic Icebox Cake: fresh dairy whipped cream layered between homemade chocolate wafer cookies with a choice of vanilla or chocolate whipped cream.

You can opt in for a custom cake with any flavor on their menu, or choose one of their popular options, from apple pie, to rainbow marshmallow, strawberries and matcha, bubble gum, or cowboy cookie dough, just to name a few.

You may have heard of Carlos Bakery or Buddy Valastro from his show, Cake Boss, and we’re here to tell you that his cakes live up to the show’s depiction. We’re also here to tell you that their standard rainbow cake is the move and available for delivery on apps like Uber Eats. This cake is six layers of rainbow-colored vanilla cake filled high with a sweet vanilla icing and covered with rainbow sprinkles with a great price tag of $39 – pretty hard to beat!

Yes, they are known for their banana pudding, but they do the simple, classic birthday cake to perfection. Choose between vanilla, chocolate, or funfetti cake, vanilla or chocolate buttercream frosting and even choose your icing colors from their signature pastels.

Lady M is home to quite possibly the chicest cake in Manhattan. Their signature crepe cake is 20 layers of paper-thin, handmade crepes, layered with pastry cream, which literally melt-in-your-mouth. The classic is our go to but the cake also comes in green tea, passionfruit, strawberry, pistachio, tiramisu, and chocolate.

William Greenberg

William Greenberg is an iconic UES establishment known for their mini cookies, but their cakes are pretty high up on our list too. Our favorite is the famous Candy Cake, made with whipped cream, shaved chocolate, and homemade chocolate wafers. It’s rich and decadent but also airy enough to eat a copious amount in one sitting.

Baked knows how to make a delicious three layer cake. And if you can think of the flavor, odds are they have it. Pistachio, banana, carrot, caramel apple, confetti, coconut, cookies n cream, passionfruit, hummingbird, grasshopper, lemon…the list goes on! Our personal favorite is the sweet and salty, which is three layers of salted caramel soaked chocolate cake with caramel chocolate whipped ganache, topped with fleur de sel and sanding sugar.

We had to include a cookie cake on this list, and Cookie Do does it best. They may be famous for their unbaked dough, but their baked cookie cakes are pure perfection. Get it with frosting, sprinkles, single layer or six layers high, topped with edible cookie dough. Plus, you can choose between chocolate chip or confetti! They even have the option for a cookie monster or a smiley face.
