What is life without a little something sweet? New York City is home to some of the most iconic candy shops from old school joints like Economy Candy to the contemporary and revolutionary Dylan’s Candy Bar. Whether you have a craving for sugary confections or you love everything dipped in chocolate, here are some of NYC’s sweetest shops that will satisfy any cravings you may have.
Economy Candy
PC: @economycandyEconomy Candy, a Lower East Side institution, has been in operation since 1937. A lesser-known fact about the gem is that it began as a shoe and hat repair shop with a tiny candy cart outside. After the Depression hit, the owners realized that selling candy did better than the repair shop. And with that, Economy Candy was born. This hot spot with over 2,000 varieties of sweets proves that candy never goes out of style – you can find old time favorites like Razzles, Mary Jane, and Now and Laters, in addition to recent candies, as well.
It’s Sugar

Jeff Rubin, the founder and CEO, calls his store a “modern-day playground.” As one of the largest and fastest growing candy retailers, It’s Sugar always looks for new ways to make candy interesting; they even did a collaboration with Black Tap Burgers back in 2016.
Sockerbit
PC: @sockerbitnycSockerbit represents the Scandinavian candy culture. “Smagodis” translates to “little candies,” the primary focus of this minimalistic store. Smagodis are a large part of Scandinavian culture and children buy the little sweets every Saturday to celebrate their week. The name “Sockerbit” literally translates to “sugar cube,” after one of the store’s most popular candies. Sockerbit is the perfect candy stop to branch out and taste a different culture’s take on a sugary sweet without having to hop on a flight.
Dylan’s Candy Bar
PC: @dylanscandybarDylan Lauren, the daughter of famed fashion designer Ralph Lauren, created Dylan’s Candy Bar in 2001. The store has since emerged as one of the largest candy stores in the world. With over 7,000 candies to choose from you’ll never go bored or hungry at this over-the-top and Willy Wonka-like candy bar.
Myzel’s
PC: @myzelschocolateMyzel’s is a family-owned candy store specializing in homemade cookies, chocolates, and licorice. Kamila Myzel and her mother started this store after seeking asylum from communism. According to Myzel, licorice is good for digestion and cuts the appetite, helping you stay fuller for longer (so it’s healthy right?). Whether you crave a chocolate nut bar or the ultimate chocolate chip cookie, Myzel’s has you covered.
