The 10 Best Restaurants to Open so Far in 2017

New York City has over 24,000 restaurants and with new openings and closings every day, we definitely have our work cut out for us! In an effort to help you sift through tons of restaurant reviews to decide where to have your next meal, here are our favorite restaurants to open in 2017:
ABCV
Wild Mushroom and Poached Farm Eggs from ABCVThe highly anticipated, all-vegetarian offset of ABC Kitchen, follows Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s formula for success: it has the incredible location near ABC Carpet & Home; the polished, modern decor is outstanding; and the food has Vongerichten’s inventive pizazz. ABCV demonstrates that breakfast can be just as exciting as dinner – we can’t stop thinking about the wild mushroom and poached eggs.
Nur
Assortment of food from NurIsraeli-Moroccan chef Meir Adoni’s Middle Eastern restaurant, Nur, may just be our favorite restaurant opening of the year. Adoni is one of the most celebrated chefs in Israel and we were pleased to discover that the same should hold true here in New York. Every dish on the menu is thoughtful, unique, and executed perfectly.The breads alone make this restaurant a must-try (unsurprising since Adoni’s business partner is Gadi Peleg, the founder of Breads Bakery). Other favorites here included the Date Doughnuts, Smoked Eggplant Carpaccio, and the Casablanca Chraime.
Pig Bleecker
Burger from Pig BleeckerPig Bleecker, appropriately situated on Bleecker St., merges fine dining with classic American BBQ – and it does it well. Dishes such as the Brisket Ravioli and Duck Lasagna are proof that this outpost from those behind Pig Beach, hence the other half of the name, can do so much more than just BBQ. Not to mention, their burger is one of our favorites this year.
4 Charles Prime Rib
Burger at 4 Charles Prime Rib4 Charles Prime Rib, a speakeasy-like steakhouse that’s hidden away in a Greenwich Village townhouse, is serving up some of the best American food we’ve had in 2017. We really love the burger – it’s the same one served at Au Cheval in Chicago. But everything we’ve tried here was truly delicious including the Cacio e Pepe Carbonara Pasta (yes, that is a thing), the Creamed Spinach and the ice-cream sundae of your dreams.
KazuNori
Assortment of hand-rolls at KazuNoriThe hand-roll eatery from the chefs behind Sugarfish (one of the biggest openings in NYC of 2016) proves that minimalist and quick restaurants can rank amongst some of the best. Patrons order off of a check-off menu that allows for the choice between individual rolls or set menus. The toro handroll and the blue crab, as served at Sugarfish, their big sister restaurant, are especially noteworthy.
Loring Place
The Whole Wheat Spaghetti from Loring PlaceDan Kluger, a former chef at both ABC Kitchen and Cocina’s first solo-endeavor, Loring Place, is dishing up some of the best upscale American food around. The handmade pastas — the Whole Wheat Spaghetti is great — and wood-fired pizzas — get the Date Pizza — are the true shining points at this restaurant but there isn’t a bad or even sub-par dish on the menu.
Sunday in Brooklyn
The Malted Pancakes from Sunday in Brooklyn. PC: @dopaoaocaviarSunday in Brooklyn is not your average restaurant. It has, in addition to the eatery, a market, a cocktail bar, and a coffee shop. An ambitious project, indeed. It’s currently one of the hottest brunch spots around – the malted pancakes are fantastic – but also serves up creative dinner dishes such as Black Cod Pastrami and Chicken Drumsticks with togarashi, garlic, and buttermilk.
Miss Paradis
Assortment of food at Miss Paradis. PC: @chicseedsMiss Paradis’s exterior, designed up Philippe Starck, is the first attribute that makes this Mediterranean-California fusion restaurant stand out. Once stepping inside, however, it’s clear that this eatery is so much more than just an architecturally compelling facade. The cocktail list is wide, the juices fresh, and the food is vibrant. Must-tries at this vegetarian hot spot include the Oven Roasted Eggplant and the Zucchini Tagliatelle.
The Grill
The Burger at The GrillThe Grill, Major Food Group’s revamped restaurant in the Four Seasons hotel, was most likely the most anticipated restaurant of 2017 thus far. It’s luxurious both in its decor and menu where diners feast on dishes such as Prime Rib, Crab Cakes, and Foie Gras. Snagging a reservation here is difficult but worth it.
